Performance evaluation of an HDH desalination system using direct contact packed towers: experimental and mathematical modeling study

Abstract Humidification–dehumidification desalination (HDH) is one of the suitable methods for saline and brackish water in a small scale. In this research, an HDH method with direct contact dehumidifier has been analyzed theoretically experimentally. The setup consists two similar packing towers humidification dehumidification, 10 inches diameter, which are filled up to 1 m Rushing packing. new configuration, seawater freshwater recirculation used humidifier sections, respectively. A steady-state mathematical model based on mass energy equations each system component presented. effect various input parameters production, gain output ratio (GOR) specific consumption investigated. results revealed that inlet air temperature tower had highest lowest produced freshwater, Also, maximum value GOR 3.3, obtained equilibrium condition dehumidifier. experiments show production proposed device 300 L/day, can provide domestic family.
